Alternative Christmas drinks!

So, Christmas is nearly upon us and to combat the inevitable stress that comes with the shopping for presents, wrapping them and then cooking dinner for the hoards that descend upon your home, sometimes you just need a little festive tipple. Let us here at Crabb & Fox Mobile Bar Hire Norfolk help you with that.

You know you want something tasty that you can sit down and relax with, but maybe you're bored of the usual mulled wine, mulled cider, or mulled anything really. We at Crabb & Fox Mobile Bar Hire Norfolk have found some suggestions for alternative festive drinks that you can have one or two (or six or seven) of.

Gingerbread Bellini.

Capture all the flavours of the classic Christmas ginger biscuit in this simple Prosecco cocktail you can make in minutes - ideal for fuss-free festive entertaining.

Ingredients...

juice 1 lemon

1 tbsp ginger cordial (or gingerbread syrup)

50ml hazelnut liqueur

350ml prosecco

25g roll-out icing or marzipan

4 mini gingerbread men

Method...

Put 4 Champagne flutes in the fridge for 15 mins. When you’re ready to serve, mix together the lemon juice, ginger cordial and hazelnut liqueur in a small jug. Take the Champagne flutes out of the fridge, pour in the mixture, then top up each glass with Prosecco.

Roll the icing into 4 small balls, then gently press them onto the rims to help you secure the mini gingerbread men. Serve immediately.

Coconut & Vanilla milk bottle cocktail.

This creamy coconut cocktail, with vanilla vodka and warming nutmeg, is a perfect Christmas party tipple - serve in mini milk bottles with a chocolate wafer straw.

Ingredients...

100ml vanilla vodka

160ml coconut cream

1 tbsp crème de cacao

½ tsp grated nutmeg

2 chocolate wafers, to serve

Method...

Put a few ice cubes in a cocktail shaker with the vanilla vodka, coconut cream, crème de cacao and grated nutmeg. Shake and strain into two mini milk bottles. Pop a rolled chocolate wafer in each.

Cinnamon butter rum.

Warm up in winter with a glass of fabulously decadent cinnamon butter rum. It's the perfect tipple to enjoy at a festive gathering over the Christmas season.

Ingredients...

25g butter

2 tbsp golden caster sugar

2 small cinnamon sticks

200ml spiced rum

Method...

Gently heat the butter, golden caster sugar and cinnamon sticks in a saucepan until the butter has melted and the sugar has dissolved.

Stir in the spiced rum, then pour into four small heatproof glasses to serve.

Salted Caramel Pecan Sour.

A modern version of the classic sour cocktail, this is the ultimate Christmas drink. Salted caramel and Icelandic vodka make an irresistible mix.

Ingredients...

100g pecans, finely chopped

160g golden caster sugar

½ tsp sea salt flakes

Reyka 300ml vodka

3 egg whites

120ml fresh clementine juice (about 2-3 clementines)

18 drops chocolate bitters

ice

6 dehydrated orange slices, to serve

good grating of nutmeg to serve

Method...

Toast the pecans in a dry saucepan for 1-2 mins, then take off the heat. Quickly add the sugar and 80ml water, stir rapidly to dissolve the sugar, add the salt, then leave the mixture to cool completely. Pour through a sieve to remove the pecans.

Pour the pecan salted caramel syrup, vodka, egg whites, clementine juice and bitters into a cocktail shaker. Shake hard for 30 secs to add volume to the egg white. Add some ice and shake again for a further 15 secs, then strain into rocks or coupe glasses. Garnish each with a dehydrated orange slice and grate fresh nutmeg over, to taste. Serve immediately.
